Our Indian Basmati rice is 100% pure basmati and comes from the foothills of the Himalayas. This fragrant, fluffy rice is an absolute must for any rice dish especially biryanis and pilau.
"Basmati" translates simply as "aroma". Fragrance is the key to a good quality basmati rice. Basmati rice should have a long grain, full flavour and honeyed aroma.
Be wary of inferior rices labelled as 'Basmati'. In order to carry the title 'pure basmati', rices need to be from a specific botanical genus, be grown in a specific area, have an extra long grain and must not be mixed or adulterated with other rices.
Our Natco basmati has passed a recent Food Standards Agency survey and is one of the few available that can carry the title 'Pure Basmati'.
COOKING BASMATI RICE
For perfect results wash the rice 3 times thoroughly in cold water and then let it soak for 15 minutes. Normally 1 cup (250g/8oz) of uncooked rice will serve 2 generous portions. Drain rice before cooking.
